Nephi was settled in 1851 by early Mormon Pioneers. The community was originally called Salt Creek because of the stream running through the community and the salt mines located in the canyons east of town.

Nephi's location on major east/west and north/south transportation routes led to it quickly becoming a major shipping and commerce center. With the coming of the railroad from the north in 1879 and from the east in 1880 propelled the town to a position of importance as a center of shipping and commerce, leading to the nickname of “Little Chicago.” The wool industry and stock raising became major industries in the area .

In 1901 the main north-south railroad lines were moved west through Lynndyl, bypassing Nephi and ending the towns “boom” era. Nephi once again became primarily a farming community.

Today Nephi is once again a bustling community lying on the south edge of the Wasatch Front. Nephi offers an attractive environment for residents and businesses alike. It's excellent location offers the proximity to urban centers and the advantages of a rural lifestyle. It is an excellent place to work and conduct business. A full range of services and amenities are available.

Numerous recreation opportunities can be found surrounding Nephi. Such things as Little Sarah, Yuba Lake, and the Mt. Nebo National Scenic Byway are just a few of the opportunities that await visitors to the area.
